Baby Massage Course
Course details for Baby Massage
Infant Massage has many wide-ranging physical and psychological benefits for babies and their parents/caregivers. Very simply, the benefits of Infant Massage can be divided into four categories:
1. Stimulation (of the skin, and other body systems)
2. Relaxation (helps babies to relax in times of stress, aids sleep)
3. Relief (of colic, constipation, sinus congestion etc)
4. Interaction/Bonding (a process of building trust and intimacy between baby and caregiver)
The course will consist of five weekly sessions of around 60 minutes each, covering:
Week 1 Leg and Foot Massage
Week 2 Stomach Massage
Week 3 Chest and Arm Massage
Week 4 Face and Back Massage
Week 5 Recap of full sequence and ‘Certification Award’
Each week, there will be a chance for parents to discuss any issues they may be facing, and to support each other with ideas and feedback. Example topics may be ‘Colic’, ‘Crying’, ‘Cues’, ‘Fun things to do with your baby’, ‘Sleep’, ‘Life before parenthood’ or ‘Parental Stress’. There will also be opportunities to learn relaxation techniques and stretching exercises (for mums and babies!).
Oil
I use pure vegetable oil to massage the babies, with no scent or perfume. Oils such as grapeseed, sunflower, calendula or olive oil (all cold-pressed) are the best for your baby’s skin. I do not use Essential Oils or (Mineral) ‘Baby Oil’. I will provide the oil we will be using, which you get to keep during the course and for use at home once the classes end.
Course Notes
I will provide your course notes which will include information taken from research articles at the first class.
Payment
The course fee is £40. Please send a cheque for £20 made payable to M Hayman as a non-refundable deposit to 16 Sycamore Close Dinas Powys CF644TG. The remainder of the fee to be paid by cash or cheque at the first class, please.
Please bring
A towel ( you will be taking your baby’s nappy off to massage him/her!) and a spare nappy. Please also bring a small blanket, which will be used to keep your baby warm whilst teaching. As we are working on the floor, please wear loose, comfy clothes.
I am very much looking forward to meeting you and your baby.
